Community Consultation
Ongoing engagement with the Dandenong community and key stakeholders is critical to building community support and ownership for the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative.
Effective engagement has built community and stakeholder awareness, support and enthusiasm for the project.
The first phase of the consultation commenced in October 2005 and concluded with the launch of the 'Shared Vision' document in April 2006. This document's principles and ideas helped to inform the subsequent draft Urban Master Plan.
The second phase of the consultation program took place from April to June 2007 to obtain community and stakeholder feedback on the proposals contained in the draft Urban Master Plan.
The project partners are committed to ongoing community engagement during the delivery of the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative. This will be a feature of major infrastructure projects that will be implemented as part of the initiative, drawing in local understanding of the issues and potential impediments to generate the best outcomes.
The project partners will continue to engage the community and other stakeholders through the following mechanisms:
Information
- Providing accessible and up-to-date information about the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative
- Keep affected people in the works area informed about the construction program, especially traders
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Ongoing opportunities for community and stakeholder engagement with major projects
- Communication and management of issues outside of the Urban Master Plan scope.
Local Initiatives
Support for local initiatives that offer benefits to the community including:
- Pathways to employment, training and education
- Recreational opportunities on vacant land
- Streetscape and shop front improvement programs
