Revitalising Central Dandenong

The Plan

Why Change Dandenong

Dandenong is the heart of Victoria's economic engine room. The Greater Dandenong region produces almost half of the state's manufacturing output and is home to more than half a million people. One in every three jobs in Melbourne is located in the South East corridor.

Over the years, Dandenong has grown and with this growth has come more traffic, more competition from areas and all of the things that hold back a growing city.

Dandenong is divided by busy roadways and a soon to be expanded rail line. It is these and other factors that have made getting around Dandenong difficult.

Overcoming these barriers can only be done by creating "living links" across the entire city centre. Reconfigured roads, open spaces, attractive safer streetscapes and providing infrastructure and services are the keys to Revitalising Central Dandenong.

This vibrant mixed-use also includes the ability to attract resident development around the city edge and to entice the thousands of people working in the surrounding industrial and commercial areas to shop and be entertained in Dandenong.

With freeways and many now transport connections Dandenong has more competition. The Melbourne 2030 Strategy will help to regenerate and revitalise this important economic hub.
