Melbourne @ 5 Million
Melbourne @ 5 Million is the State Government's 30-year plan to manage growth and change across metropolitan Melbourne. Every year more people make Melbourne home and by 2030 Melbourne will need an additional 620,000 homes.
With all those extra one million people, the Melbourne @ 5 Million plan needs to address the future requirements of transport, communities and infrastructure. The plan also relies on working partnerships with local government, business and private sector developers.
An important part of Melbourne @ 5 Million is the implementation of Transit Cities.
Transit Cities are not just about transport and developments centred around public transport hubs. Transit Cities are all about creating well-planned urban development that is designed to provide important linkages for the way we work, live, learn and play.
There are nine Transit Cities identified in the Melbourne @ 5 Million strategy. Located in the heart of the South East corridor, Dandenong will be the first Transit City and will demonstrate the benefits that can be achieved with: an agreed shared vision, planning certainty, key infrastructure, community support and a growing viable market.
