George Street Bridge
The George Street Bridge project involves extending Dandenong’s George Street to Cheltenham Road via a new bridge, which will span the railway line and Foster Street. The bridge includes a two-way road, pedestrian and bicycle access and street lighting.
Importantly, it will provide an alternative to the current traffic bottleneck in the Cheltenham Road / Foster Street area and the Hammond Road / Webster Street area.
Artwork will be mounted on both sides of the new bridge and is based on historical images of the former Dandenong livestock market, previously located at the site of the new bridge.
The $29.5 million George Street Bridge is on schedule for completion in late 2010.
