What's New
City Street
City Street will provide a better link between Dandenong Station and the city centre and will create development opportunities along its path.
The area north of the station currently contributes to a fragmented, dispersed central city area and results in a poor quality experience for businesses, shoppers and visitors. There is not enough activity during the day, particularly after 5pm, to make it feel a vibrant and safe part of the city.
City Street will be a green, pedestrian and cyclist friendly street that better connects the Station to the city centre and which should create development opportunities and ground level activity including new retail, apartments, cafes, offices and public spaces. It will build on the real strengths in local pockets such as the restaurants and specialist food outlets in Foster and Thomas Streets.
Motorists will also use City Street to access the station as well as the shops and businesses in the area.
The location of City Street takes the levels of the area into account, respects the existing street pattern within the city and enables buildings and streetscapes of cultural importance to prosper while central Dandenong is revitalised over the next 15-20 years.
City Street features:
- An easy and direct route that links the Station to the city centre, Dandenong Plaza and the Market
- A setting for high quality energy efficient buildings for living, working and business activities
- A green street with wide pedestrian paths for easy movement
- Retail outlets at ground level to bring life and activity to the western half of the city
- New civic and public spaces to meet and relax and for events
- On street parking to support local businesses
- Designated safe cycling lane
The anticipated delivery of City Street will coincide with the construction of adjoining building developments. This will ensure that when completed the street is a vibrant activity area that provides front door access to new businesses, offices and residences from the outset.
